Since it is very on topic right now, I figured it should be something we are discussing. The recent solar flare that happened on the sun has not been this great or this large since the 1850s. A lot of our systems rely heavily on things that can be EMP'd from the sun's radiation if it is strong enough. I am not sure why, having known this for over 100 years, people are not more focused on preparing for this.

I think as we advance technology, we have to keep things like solar flares in mind and find ways of protecting ourselves from such things.

I am sure they have certain things protected but to what extent? I am not sure. I would assume that a strong enough solar flare could render our satellites useless and even with power, that would still be massively destructive. I am not sure how one even prepares for such a thing.

I don't think technology has advanced enough to fully protect and ensure everything is safe. As mentioned above, our satellites going down would be pretty destructive. I am not sure how we protect them. We need to find some sort of shield.

Some have said graphene may hold the answer but not enough research is out on that.

Faraday cages seem to be the only option as of now and even those are not 100% safe. I have heard of people making these sorts of cages in bunkers and then stored devices in microwaves so make them more secure. Being underground helps. I think technology may be safe under water.

Maybe this is worth investing in. Just storing a bunch of tech in a faraday cage under water. Like for national security purposes.
