Have you considered self-hosting your own password manager?

Be it for home or business, is this something you have considered?

I ask because LastPass has had their vaults accessed and stolen. People found out a good junk of the information they stored wasn't even encrypted. I moved away from them in 2018 because of these issues but to be even more secure, I am considering self-hosting my own.

You can self-host bitwarden or vautwarden but for me, there are downsides to doing this. I feel like both bitwarden and vautwarden are secure enough to not worry and any passwords that I need to always have access to, I have additional backups for.

@ironfelixx I was looking into doing this. What are the downsides? I am curious what you think they are. I have read a bit about both as options but I want to know from people that are more experienced.

I have not tried this myself. What are you considering setting up in terms of what software you will be using? I am curious about it. I have no experience but I am more and more open to private security measures like this the more I hear of data breaches.

@boldstix Vaultwarden which is just Bitwarden but locally hosted. I have been looking into it more and more and it seems fairly easy to set up. I know for most people it is above and beyond what they care about but I am trying to be as secure as possible.

Oh okay. I was not aware it was called something different. I will look into this and see how easy it is. I mean I would imagine if you are able to manage your own home server, this will just be another thing to apply to it.
