I am new to this. Only just got it set up. I know the basics. I just want to make sure I am not overlooking or forgetting anything. I am using strong passwords for everything, I have a solid firewall, installed IDS... What else can I do from here?
If you haven't done this already (not everyone does) I would suggest doing physical security. Secure your system behind a locked cabinet or in a locked closet or room. If someone were to ever break unto your home, they would likely nab all of it and if it is not fully secure that would be terrible news! Even still, they can gain access to everything if they know the right people. Just be careful!
I agree about physical security. This is often the most overlooked aspect of protecting a home server. You should also ensure you have proper functioning backups and multiple of them for when they fail. It will eventually happen as they are not built to last forever.
