It seems like this is an overlooked threat not many business owners consider. Disgruntled employees could leak information to competitive businesses or worse, compromise your security entirely... Is there a good measure to prevent this?

Have back-ups always. I would also not allow full access to anyone. There are ways to block important files and such from all employees. Always be monitoring was people are doing. You can use programs that will alert you to specific activity as well.

@glitch72 I agree with this fully. I think having backups saves a lot of people and a lot of companies. You never know what may happen. It may just end up being a neglect or mistake by a trusted employee. We have to be prepared for other people's mistakes.

@glitch72 Back ups are important for other reasons so if a company already doesn't have them regardless of this threat, they are operating poorly IMO.I think you are right though that this can offer a level of protection from insider threats.

Limit access and monitor what access is given. Not much else you can do. In certain circumstances, you need to allow some employees access to important data or files. In this case, make sure only employees that have worked for you for years and can be trusted have this kind of access.

@boldstix Employees in the tech industry seem to shift around a lot due to pay. Some places offer better pay and people are more inclined to leave for a better income. When you do have employees that stick around, it is a big deal but not all of them stay for years because they are loyal, some are just lazy or content and that can be an issue of neglect and a security risk!
