I am not sure I understand what this phrase means. I might just be calling it something different. I didn't want to ask at work and embarrass myself.

Can someone explain what a vulnerability assessment is and what tools people use to perform this?

The easiest way to explain it is a vulnerability assessment is a systematic process used to identify, classify, and prioritize security weaknesses in an organization's IT infrastructure. Things like networks, systems and applications. You use automatic tools that scan for and detect vulnerabilities and many provide solutions too.

I am only familiar with one tool and that is Singularity XDR. Where I work, they use it and it gets the job done. It provides us with data and feedback to better assess our security measures.

There are AI tools now that manage and handle this. I think they are faster and more cost effective too. They can recognize patterns and notify you before something happens as well as expose any sort of weakness and provide details on how to improve them.
