What risks come with employees using their personal devices for work?

I know a number of companies that will provide laptops, desktops, and even phones to use specifically for company and work related things only - whilst others will just let people use whatever they want. I understand providing a desktop for office jobs, most places do but more and more are giving laptops and phones specifically for work in office or at home.

What sorts of risks do you think could happen by allowing people to use their personal devices for work?

One of the most common I have found and heard of is someone accessing their personal e-mail on their computer and allowing some sort of tracker or data catching virus onto it. This scrapes for all details and ends up with work related information.

I have heard of past employees retaining confidential data after leaving the company. They then take this to competing companies and use it as leverage to get higher salaries. I think in most cases, you have to worry about people just not securing their own personal devices more than anything.

@donnieg I didn't even consider this. Taking information to a rival company. I am sure that has happened a number of times in many different industries. Yikes!

Oh yes. I have heard of it happening across countries too. This is especially true for China and the US. They will have students come here for education, get a job, work at some tech company for a year or two and then return to China with details.
